Student Prevention

RAISE THE STANDARD

Youth Prevention Program

Our youth prevention program is designed to teach middle and high school aged students about building healthy relationships and the dangers of human trafficking and sexual exploitation. We use an age-appropriate curriculum based on the latest research. The sessions will help students by empowering them to develop healthy relationships built on respect and free from violence and intimidation. We want to help youth identify vulnerabilities and seek help for any unhealthy relationships that could lead them to sexual exploitation, abuse, and trafficking.

WHAT WE TEACH

Our Curriculum

Safe Passage is on the frontlines of prevention for youth. We want to see child trafficking end, so we work to reach students before traffickers do. Our prevention program reaches over several hundred youth every year! The two-session program partners with schools and youth agencies to educate students about sexual abuse and human trafficking.

Teaching students about

Sexual Exploitation

Healthy Boundaries

Human Trafficking

This program is offered during the school season, and the program aims to:
- Help youth understand what is sexual abuse and human trafficking (forms, how it happens, prevalence, etc.)
- Understand the risk-factors
- Understand warning signs of an abuser
- Understand the struggle a victim may have with feelings of guilt and shame
- Understand the fears and obstacles a victim may have to telling a trusted adult
- Identify personal vulnerabilities
- Seek help for any previous or current abuse
- Seek help for any unhealthy relationships that could lead them into abuse or trafficking
- Raise up young advocates!

A 14 y/o girl attended our session on sexual abuse. After the class, she came up to the speaker and burst into tears. She was so distraught, the team couldn’t walk her to the counseling office through the hallways. They had to escort her outside and around the building. The girl explained she had never told anyone about her childhood sexual abuse. The next day, she walked into class with a huge smile on her face. She walked up to the speaker and tackled her with a hug.

She said, “Thank you. I told my mom, and I feel lighter. I know everything is going to be okay.” Without Safe Passage’s prevention program, this young girl may have carried the burden of childhood sexual abuse in secret for the rest of her life. Today, she is on a hopeful journey to healing and freedom because she told her counselor and mother, and she had a positive experience during one of the scariest days of her life because of the Safe Passage team.

HOW IT WORKS

Booking a Speaker

Our guest speakers are free, and each topic is a stand-alone 1-hr session. You can book us to come in for one session or multiple! We can tailor these sessions to educate, empower, and rally whole grades, or the whole school! To book a speaker, fill out our form below, and a team member will reach out to discuss the details and schedule your session. The teenage years are when youth are most vulnerable to trafficking, sexual abuse, and trauma which is why there's no better time to have an honest discussion in your classroom or community group.
